The leaves were bursting out on trees everywhere, while some fruit trees were in full bloom. Some of the grapevines had lovely baby-green buds breaking out, while others still appeared to be dormant. This is my favorite time of year in California - the green grass is so most beautiful right now, and it won't last through summer.

We went to a beautiful small winery called Copain, which looked out over the Russian River. My husband's friend has a membership, so we got to go to their private Spring Tasting which included a delicious lunch.
Here are my two girlfriends, inadvertently color-coordinating their nails and pants with one of Copain's Syrahs. It was my favorite out of all their wines that day, with a lovely, blackberry fruit, almost raisin-y taste. It tasted like the promise of summer.

My most pressing question (beyond which wineries we will visit, and who is going to be the designated driver [not me this time! yippee]) is, what to wear? It is wine country after all, and in my opinion any shoe with a skinny heel isn't appropriate or practical. You never know if you will end up having to navigate a soil or gravel walkway. I usually wear jeans when it's cool, and a casual dress when we go in the summer. The weather on Saturday was breezy and cool in the morning, but promised a warm afternoon, so I dressed in layers.
Here I am, being caught on camera in the middle of a giggle-fest, as usual. Especially after I've had a few glasses... heehee!

I built my outfit on my cowboy boots and J.Crew Utility Jacket, and filled in the rest from there. Citizens straight-leg jeans and a white v-neck, with a J.Crew cardigan (don't recall the name - one of their buttonless cardis from Spring 2010) in the "orchid shadow" color, and a fun beaded necklace from Jigsaw. The handbag is a beautiful LV bag my husband got me for Christmas. I like how the leather details match the leather of my boots, plus... one can always get away with bringing a little bit of luxury into wine country.
What do you wear when you go winetasting? Do you have any favorite wineries in Sonoma county?

Um, hello LV bag, verrrry nice!:)
Love the outfit and jealous of your day in Sonoma! Wish we could hit that up!
Well not Sonoma, but Solage in Calistoga is divine. Love the restaurant. Seriously, check it out. http://www.solagecalistoga.com/

how lovely!
i do try to wear sensible shoes when going to wineries; luckily i have a pair of burgundy-hued loafers to match the vino. :)
Liz, wish you could be here! You guys gotta leave JB with the grandparents and come on out to SF one of these days. :)
Suburban mom: I will definitely check that place out. We go up to Calistoga (we're members of a couple wineries up there) more often than Sonoma. Thanks for the rec!
Tasty moog: I love the idea of wine-colored accessories, especially practical ones. :)
Beringer in Napa!
We're members and we luuuv it! Next time you go, check it out-great atmosphere, even better wines :)
Last time we went I wore (really) high heels and regretted it-those who stumble after wine tasting stumble better in flip flops :)
Next time I go, I'm wearing flats and I'll spice things up with cute jewelry and/or accessories.
Have a great weekend!
Oh yes, we love Beringer too. The property is so pretty! We buy their wine at Costco fairly often. ;) We are actually family friends with one of the guides, a super-sweet older lady named Lynn.
Hope you have a great weekend too!
I was just trying to decide what to wear to Napa tomorrow. I think I'll rethink my 4" heels! LOL!
Ms.Mer- always good to know people in Napa/Sonoma, esp. if you go there as often as we do (such a relaxing weekend getaway...) Which Beringer wine is available at Cosco if you don't mind me asking??? I didn't know that, appreciate you mentioning it-time to drag a friend who has their membership with me to Cosco and stock up :)
OnlyGirl: I know I'm not supposed to swallow wine during tasting but I never learned to spit with style (hehe) As a result, I'm finding it difficult to spit wine in front of other people and that's also the only reason I stumble afterwards ;) I'm only wearing comfy shoes to Napa/Sonoma from now on.
Just discovered your blog!
I was also in Sonoma last month for a wedding. A bunch of us rented a home and it was so much fun. My husband and I did some wine tours and it was just the funniest time. I LOVE San Fran so I am jealous that you live there.
One of my favorite places to eat is Nob Hill Cafe! Oh my gosh I wish I could eat there everyday. My husband and I went to San Fran for our babymoon this summer as I had to escape the Phx heat and I am so glad our hotel recommended Nob Hill Cafe. I loved it so much we ate there twice during our 4 day stay!
