Excess lbs

Do you ever find that you live life to the fullest a little too much? I've been super-social in the last couple of months, which in my circle of friends means drinking fancy cocktails and eating delicious (and often fried, oops) foods. My previous post is a perfect example. And now I am paying the price in too-tight pants.

I put on my old pair of flares the other day in preparation of my sequel to this post, and damn. They were too tight. I get on the scale and discover I'm a few lbs heavier than my usual weight. Where does it all go on my body at first? One word: booty.

Ugh. And I was doing so well on Jan 1. I'm trying to consider this more of a "detox" because I don't like the word, "diet." Detox sounds more fun, like something you get to do at a spa. Any little thing to make this not-so-fun lifestyle change sound more glamourous helps.

I really just want to be able to fit into my flares, Minnies and other snug pants comfortably again. I tried my Minnies on last week and could get them on (juuust barely), but there was a serious risk of splitting a seam if I were to do something out of the ordinary, like, oh... sit down for example.

So, here we go, I'm back in the saddle again. Goodbye carbohydrates, hello vegetables.

A typical breakfast (click here for that shake recipe. This one has two frozen strawberries to make it pretty in pink):

I refuse to give up my coffee in the mornings. Give me coffee or give me death!

A typical lunch:

Spinach and baby greens, tomatoes, leftover sauteed yellow squash, bell pepper, celery, feta cheese, a couple of olives, and a hardboiled egg. Quite delicious, but I usually feel pretty hungry two hours later. I guess that's the point.

I usually have a few raw cashews, celery, or a tangerine for a snack twice a day, and finish it off with a dinner of a lean protein and vegetables.

When I do go out with friends, I've started replacing drinks with soda water. I did this last week and discovered it really didn't make any difference as to how much fun i had. Plus it saved me money, a win-win.

I hope to share my flares with you all in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, what do you do to stay healthy? I would love to hear your ideas in the comments.

I agree, the only way for me to lose those extra pounds is to almost completely drop out carbs or skip dinner every night and go to bed hungry :( (but I have to say when my pants are loose, it makes it all worth it...)

After we were "done" having kids (we have 3) I really wanted to get in great shape and lose all those extra lbs I had been holding onto for too long! I kept track of my food on a website called sparkpeople.com and it sucks to count calories but its really what did it for me. Now, a year and 30+ lbs (thats minus 30 lbs) later I weigh less than I did in high school! Of course it was very slow going, at times it was like 2lbs a month slow but it really helped me to see exactly WHAT I was eating and to learn that discipline of not snacking on stuff all day long.

No advice, but your I love that your meals look so beautiful :)

Your salad looks delicious, but it looks like you may need some more protein and/or healthy fats to sustain you for more than two hours. Perhaps adding some sunflower seeds, chicken or nuts to the salad might help?

Oh just wait until you are over 50:). All I can say is, enjoy your figure now. Celebrate it. Not that everything goes to heck, but, still, what used to wind up elsewhere all settles on the belly. Not meaning to complain, so much as to remind you to make sure and enjoy youth.
