No dress yet; focusing on shoes

I have another confession to make: I am getting married at the end of July and still have no wedding gown. Eeeek! Let's just say that I have issues... and can't admit that I'm being a little too picky. I could go one with story after story after story, along with lots of (most likely flawed) psychological self-evaluation, but believe me -- I don't think y'all want to read that.

I just wish my search was like my fiance's for a suit. We walk into a men's bridal formalwear store, and he pulls down a natty Hugo Boss 3-piece suit and we're done, just like that. I wish my search had been that quick and easy!

Looking forward, I'm awaiting the arrival of these two promising potentials, and hope one of them will work out! JCrew's Robin and Clarice gowns (just try saying that without thinking, "Hellooo, Clarice." Told you.)

Until then, who else but Kate Spade to inspire me in the foot department? I'm even allowing less money for my dress budget so that I can splurge a little on the shoes. I should note that I plan on wearing a fun color, as opposed to white or ivory. Why not have fun with it, right? I also like the idea of being able to wear them again after the wedding.

Muse, $298. 2.5 inch heel

A fairly classic shape, with a more contemporary bow. I love this fun pink color, which kind of matches my color-scheme (close enough!), and the heel isn't too high. My fiance is three inches taller than me, so in these I would be safe.

Luna, $295. 3.75 inch heel

Just add gold for a little more glamour. ;) I love how the strap wraps around the foot, with another cute bow detail. These could look too casual in person, but I'll wait and see. Would it be bad if these made me a half-inch taller than my fiance?

Carly, $298. 3.5 inch heel

I think these could look fabulous paired with the Clarice gown. I love their quasi-retro look. Bring on the gold and bows! (I seem to have a thing for bows, can you tell?)

Any thoughts, suggestions, or stories of your own? I'd love to hear any advice my blogtown fashionistas have to share!

Ms. Mer, I really like your idea of splurging on a pair of shoes that you can rewear. The other night I was watching TV and remarked to my husband that there were two different shows on different channels about women shopping for wedding gowns. The hype around it is really crazy! One woman was in a struggle with her mother because the woman wanted to spend $8000 and her mother wanted her to *only* spend $4000. That's great if you have that kind of money, but the pressure for every bride to feel like they have to spend thousands to get something special is ridiculous, IMO.

I went to all of the hoity-toity salons to try things on, but the dress I ended up with came from the local bridal boutique in a small town. It was perfect, and it cost about $300!

I look forward to hearing more about your search, and of course the wedding itself! Good luck!

Oooh, I just love those pink shoes! And great idea, too, re-wearable and all. I think you have every right to be picky about your dress, it is your wedding, after all. And when you find the right one, it will just leap into your gleeful leetle arms. Fingers crossed! :)

Hi Anon,
I assume one of those shows might be "Say Yes to the Dress." I find myself watching that show all the time (research? yeah, right!), and have found it's kind of like a train wreck that I can't tear myself away from. I couldn't agree more that the budgets of a lot of the brides seem totally blown out of proportion to me. Seeing the daughters trying to push their mothers into the budget stratosphere is pretty shocking. Whether or not that makes good TV is debatable. ;) That's mostly what I've been struggling with: my fiance and I "gave" me a pretty nice budget, but I just haven't been able to justify spending that kind of money on my dress... hence the shopping at JCrew for dresses under $1K. :)

Thanks for chiming in. I will definitely post more updates often! :)

LB, I was composing while you commented! :) Hee hee, I'm definitely hoping for some gleeful grabbing when the ups man makes his box-drop later this week. :) The pink ones are my fave too!

I got my dress for $428, including the underneath poofyness (I am sure that is the technical word for it). I just got my shoes! I am using them for my something blue. You can read about it here:

Good luck with dress shopping. I found it somewhat stressful. I just couldn't justify spending all that money on a dress I am only going to wear once. (Although I am wearing mine for a trash the dress session too!)

I LOVE those Kate Spade shoes! They would be a pretty, fun accessory to your dress.
I bought shoes that had a lucite, or "glass" heel, which was a personal joke for me as I was completely obsessed with the Cinderella story as a little kid. I still have them, but I haven't worn them since.
They kind of look like stripper-shoes to me now!

I hope you find a JCrew dress! Let us know how it goes after your UPS bf drops them off.

I spent $400 on my dress, at a local bridal shop, no big price tags for me either!
