Get out the mint and bourbon...

Because it's time for a Kentucky Derby party! Would anyone like a mint julep? I'll take two...

I bought a sun hat from JCrew yesterday, which I plan on gussying up with pink ribbons tonight. I'm hoping it will do. I would love to make something like in the previous post, but that's far beyond my skill level...

What to wear? I plan on wearing a white fluffy cocktail dress, my orange Kate Spades, and that hat. Done and done! "Mr." Mer will be rocking a pink button-up with pressed khakis and his Sperry topsiders. Oh and apparently there will be a horse race too, or something. Right? ;)

If anyone else has Kentucky Derby plans, please share in the comments. Is anyone going to the actual event? And what will you be wearing, dahlings?

Have a great weekend!

We are actually doing a surprise derby party tomorrow in honor of my dad's 60th. He has always wanted one! I'm in charge of the mint juleps so I have to try those out tonight. I plan on wearing a flowered H&M dress and and a white hat with black flowers from Kohls.

Heather, it's very sad that ya'll have to 'try out" those juleps! hehe. Wonderful party for your Dad! Have fun. :)
MsMer, you and the Mr will be smashing, I know! Will there be pics?
It is my dream to go to the Derby one day. I must work on that for next year, it's a great wardrobe opportunity!

It's freezing in South Africa already and it is only April (this part of the country, Jhb is much colder than my home town, the exquisite Cape Town)... but it's awesome to see that somewhere in the world sun hats with pretty pink ribbons will be celebrating the warmth.

Have a lovely time...and a julep for me! (or three!)

I'm dying to take a holiday in the US & go on the Kentucky bourbon trail.

Heather: that sounds fantastic! I hope your Dad enjoyed the surprise. Your outfit description sounds wonderful as well -- I love bright colors contrasted with black&white, it sounds very chic.
